Always found this interesting. Why we are America and not Columbia.
Here come the spoofs.
Would have been better if she’d pushed the button just one more time…
I’m sure everyone has heard, by now of the new “No Pressure” video by the 10:10 climate change campaign – now removed from their site – but you can find it on youtube by searching for 10:10 No Pressure (it’s being put back up as fast as it gets taken down).
Warning – blood, guts and gore. The video involves them blowing up those who don’t agree to reduce their carbon by 10%.
When I first saw it, I assumed it was done by the skeptic side as a semi-satire on the fact that they seem to want to tell everyone how to live – and that they had no tolerance for dissent. I was rather amazed to find it wasn’t.
So, what were they thinking? They thought it was funny. Really – they said so in their ‘apology’ after they pulled it.
With climate change becoming increasingly threatening, and decreasingly talked about in the media, we wanted to find a way to bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh. We were therefore delighted when Britain’s leading comedy writer, Richard Curtis – writer of Blackadder, Four Weddings, Notting Hill and many others – agreed to write a short film for the 10:10 campaign. Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.
So, trying to be fair, the only kind of humor I think this could be is “if we’re really as bad as they think we are, THIS is what we’d be doing.” And, IF (and only if) it was meant that way, maybe it’s just a bit funny. But if that’s the way it was meant, it was very badly done.
If I were them, I’d stay away from deep satire henceforth. Jonathan Swift, they aren’t.
Update: and Iowahawk is on it.
She’s a bit too far on the social right-wing for my taste. But she’s a Christian, and obviously knows about as much about witches as most Christians do. Witches don’t even believe in Satan – so if she was having a picnic on a Satanic altar, it wasn’t a Wiccan altar.
Plus which, she was in high-school then. Umm – high school? People do silly things in high school. Can we just ignore this silliness? She’s not a witch – she never was a witch. And the people trying to claim she is are just plain idiots.
I approve of the Hillbuzz take on that matter – she should have some fun with it.
