09 November, 2001: "Safety in a war zone?"By Kathy Kinsley The big question of many Americans seems to be: "will we ever feel safe again?" No. Think of this as "tough love". We aren't safe. We never were safe. The only difference between now and September 11 is that now we all know we aren't safe. We aren't safe, but we are (ironically) safer now than we were before September 11. I would much rather take a plane now, despite all the reports on airport security, because I know that no hijacking will ever again succeed on any plane which has American passengers. We "the people" have proved that when we know the score, we will stop hijackers, even if it means our own lives. We will never again follow the old guidelines about "sitting still and keeping calm". From now on, we'll attack. We will never be safe (until that day that no one in the world would consider violence against another) but we will be safer than we were before the atrocities. The only difference between September 10, 2001 and today is that today we know the score. So... some more "tough love". Live with it. The only other choice is to die of it. It's up to you.
