“The butcher of Baghdad is dead. Saddam Hussein, the tyrant who ruled Iraq like a Mafia don, slaughtered his fellow citizens and led his country into two disastrous wars with the United States, was hanged near dawn in Iraq for the 1982 massacre of 148 Shiite civilians.”

Update - Money Quote: “Civilizations fall because people bitch and complain when the electricity is off for fifteen minutes, and never give a thought to the fact that it has been on for their entire lives.”

Here’s some good news!
Mineta Resigns As Transportation Secretary
Via Glenn, who is taking credit. (I should take credit too - it’s only two years or so since I called for his removal.)
Any rate, never mind credits, I’m glad he’s out. Unless they replace him with someone worse…

He’s baaaack.
Go buy yourself more ink and paper for your printer and a new set of reading glasses. Bill Whittle is back and promising to post some new writings.

Yeeeeeeeee HAW!
Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki said al-Zarqawi was killed along with seven aides Wednesday evening in a house 30 miles northeast of Baghdad in the volatile province of Diyala.
“Today, al-Zarqawi was eliminated,” al-Maliki told a news conference, drawing loud applause from reporters as he was flanked by U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and U.S. Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
Looks like his luck ran out. Good.
Friday morning update: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is still dead. ![]()

Bravo!
My local paper printed the cartoons, along with a guest opinion by Daryl Cagle. All of them. I may just go buy a subscription for that. I am most certainly going to write them a thank-you note. (Along with the note that I disagree with Cagle…).
(Embarrassed hat tip to LGF - I should have known about it myself - one of the reasons I may subscribe again.)

Canadian Election update
Could have wished for more but, as Mark Steyn says, “…given that the party was reduced to two seats in the 1993 debacle, after 12 years in the wilderness most Canadian conservatives will take a strong minority government as a spectacular landslide. ” Indeed. And go read that - he’s in prime form!

Please read.
I think it’s about time to remind those on the right, once again, that not all domestic terrorists are Muslims. See Michael Yon’s Fight on the Home Front for details. I’d also like to point out to the left that if you restrict the ability to ’spy’ on terrorists in the US, you will be in more danger from these groups, as well as from Islamist terrorist groups.
P.S. This is old news - but there are a lot of details in there I never heard about (I knew about some arrests - but not much more than that.)

The KOS kids weep, beat chest. The M’sian PM says he’s against that and gets a blog drubbing like this here:
“When european shit somehow tastes better and is more filling ”

I continue to be amazed at all the hand wringing over Saddam’s indecorous end. He could have ended up like Mussolini, hung upside down and pissed upon. That would have been more just.
