A Lady after Me Own Heart

Pensioner is new knife-wielding Crocodile Dundee

With Australian outback hero Crocodile Dundee as her inspiration, an 80-year-old British pensioner foiled a knife-wielding burglar with an even bigger blade of her own.

My Kind of Lady

International Women’s Forum Inducts Female Afghan Army Officer

KABUL, Afghanistan – Khatol Mohammadzai, a senior officer in the Afghan National Army, recently became the first Afghan woman inducted into the International Women’s Forum Hall of Fame in Washington D.C., where she was recognized for the impact she has made on the lives of Afghan women and men.
“Being invited to America is something I never thought would happen. I broke all the chains women have faced in my country to be here today. I am honored to be here with other strong women from all over the world,” Mohammadzai said.

Read all about her at the link above - including what she did while the Taliban were in power.

Hat tip to The Middle Ground - who you should be reading regularly anyway.

Lady Hero

Staff Sgt. Serena Maren Di Virgilio, Bronze Star with ‘V’

It was only supposed to be a mission to deliver a tire to an MP patrol that had come under heavy fire along Alternate Supply Route Sword near Baghdad.

But Staff Sgt. Serena Maren Di Virgilio’s convoy drove right into an ambush.

And even though the medic from the Headquarters, 230th Military Police Company, was covered with shrapnel wounds, she took care of every soldier in her unit before caring for herself.

Go… read! And I don’t want to hear even one more word against women in combat.

Many thanks to Chuck Simmins for sending me the link to this one.

More like this…

One American female is taking on the country of Yemen. And, from the reaction, I think she’s winning.

Female Marines… in Combat?

Marine raid breaks gender barrier

Lance Cpl. Erin Libby doesn’t want to be treated the same as her male Marine Corps counterparts. But she does want to be treated as an equal — even in combat.

In a way, she got her chance last weekend when Marines from the 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment led a raid into the city of Karmah in search of high-value targets and hidden weapons.

“We’re out here, and we’re rocking on the front line,” said Libby, a 21-year-old from Niceville, Fla., who pinned on the rank of lance corporal during a break in the mission.

Bravo!

And many thanks to Bill E. and to Chuck for sending me the link.

A carnival I can get behind. *

Carnival of Cordite #2

* Wouldn’t want to stand between them and a target… Hat tip to Ken Summers, at “it comes in pints?” (indeed it does). Sorry I didn’t catch it sooner… but he didn’t mention shooting like a woman, so I didn’t see it until now. ;)

This Is IMPORTANT !!

A Snarl From The Den……..

As bloggers we MUST do everything we can to help fellow bloggers, for there are those who would crush us all, given the chance. This new site concerning bloggers and bloggers’ rights has chosen today to get the ball rolling with a “Free Arash and Mojtaba” campaign: two Iranian bloggers jailed for believing in free speech, basically.

Put up a post on this, and keep it up top all day !! Let the world know we bloggers are all in this together.

Good news from Iraq.

One year ago, at 8:30 p.m. Iraq time, on a lovely Saturday**, Saddam Hussein was captured. The good news is that he is still in jail and will be tried by the Iraqis he abused for so long.

** His capture would have made that day a lovely Saturday, even if snow had been falling here in SW Florida.
