Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as “bad luck.”
Robert Heinlein said, in just a few words, what Atlas Shrugged said in an entire huge volume. He was right, and this little quote should be pointed out and “liked” and “tweeted” all over creation. But it won’t be. Because there are too damned many “right-thinking people.”
Insty ain’t among them. Neither am I. And many of the TEA partiers get it too. (Not all, but many.) Join us?
I’ve just tweeted that quote and put it on my Facebook page.
Great Heinlen quote Kathy and Kate of the beautiful caligraphy, and so true!
here in Israel we’re presently going thru’ a mini “social revolution” started by 4 young people who were ousted from the housing market. That’s now developed into a mini “social revolution.” Thousands of young people are camping out, marching in the streets, last week attracted 300,000 of a population of 7mil and govt that previously so disconnected to the people are staring to take notice. The demands are for social justice, equality and a better future. Sounds familiar!
Many of us old ‘uns as well, we who’ve worked hard all our lives and now find it difficult to ne’er impossible to put a roof over our heads and make ends meet fully identify with the struggle. We have our future behind us but are affected by the piggish capitalism, crass materialism and greed as well
I’ve circulated this very succinct piece of wisdom.
