Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki said al-Zarqawi was killed along with seven aides Wednesday evening in a house 30 miles northeast of Baghdad in the volatile province of Diyala.
“Today, al-Zarqawi was eliminated,” al-Maliki told a news conference, drawing loud applause from reporters as he was flanked by U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad and U.S. Gen. George Casey, the top U.S. commander in Iraq.
Looks like his luck ran out. Good.
Friday morning update: Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is still dead. ![]()

Indeed. I’m hoping we got plenty of higher-up ‘friends’ too.

According to Lt. Col. Bill Cowan on O’Reilly tonight stated that there were thirteen (13) other al-Zarqawi cells were hit at the same time. RIH (Rest In Hell)
It appears that al-Qaida has been hurt pretty badly but it is NO time to rest on our laurels. Note the several attacks within hours of the al-Zaqari immolation.
Please forgive the cold water treatment on such a joyous occasion.

Addendum to the above: Michael Yon (www.michaelyon.com) in his “Death Finds Satan’s Second Most Favored Serpent” warns that this is not the end of the terrorism.

I don’t expect it is the end. But I really wanted him out. And he’s OUT.

One down, but many, many more to go. Terrorism is insidious and debilitating - I know, I have lived through a long running terrorist campaign, the one thing I learned was that you can never kill them all - the answer is to reduce the recruiting potential by making the reasons for the ‘war’ appear unreasonable.
