Eye of the Storm is watching Dennis.
Boudicca’s Voice has bugged out of Pensacola (good!) but promises further blogging today. [Update] Her dad is still in Pensacola, and she’s blogging his reports.
Babalu has a thread going on Cuba. A must-read. They got hit very badly.
As for me, I’m not going to relax until it’s NW of us and still way off… even though they say this one isn’t likely to turn east. It has passed us now.
[Update] Tree-hugging sister, of Coalition of the Swilling, is in Pensacola - and she’s staying.
[Update] More hurricane bloggers, via Instapundit:
The Irish Trojan is tracking and has links to a lot of good information.
Also check Storm Track. I agree with the ‘get out’ advice… but considering traffic jams, it may be too late.

We went through Frances and Jeanne at home and my folks took an enormous hit by Ivan. It was like we were trading off on hits… us, them, us. This does not bode well for Pensacola. It would be like the folks from Punta Gorda or Vero Beach taking another direct hit. As of now, my folks still have power. My Dad thinks they may keep power longer than Ivan as there are far fewer trees to fall on power lines. Blech.

Why do people board up windows? Every house in hurricane country should have storm shutters.

Probably because no-one can afford the ones that are as good, or better, than plywood.
The cheapest ones you can get that are as good as (3/4″) plywood are about $7 per square foot.

I think you’re right Kathy. Plywood is cheaper, although a bigger pain in the neck to put up. It’s a law in Palm Beach County now that all new homes MUST have shutters. But the old homes… it is really expensive to pay for shutters.
