Good morning US of A, are you awake? Have you forgotten what an important day it is? As a not so gentile reminder, it’s 15 March, and time to celebrate the third annual International Eat an Animal for PETA Day (Love that dancing hiefer graphic BTW). The originator, Meryl Yourish has ensured this years event isn’t an ” America-only” celebration and given those of us in the far-flung corners of the world a chance to gain a few pounds of flesh, by eating a few pounds of flesh. Before I get into my prodigious list of animal parts consumed today (Hey living in R.P. has it’s advantages, being 13 hours ahead of EST means a head start on the Western world), I urge you all to stop by and view not only the hate mail this has generated, but a very appropriate billboard graphic that fits the occasion. Without further adieu, my menu for the day:
Breakfast
- Ham & cheese omlette
- Side order of longganisa (a cholesterol/fat and only god knows what else laced pork sausage)
- A second side and a very popular breakfast plate called longsilog, referring to its ingredients of Longaniza; longganisa (pork sausage), sinangag (fried rice) and itlog (fried egg).
Lunch (In deference to the current local temp (about 85f) we ordered two pizzas from Pizza Hut
- 1 Regular Hawaiian Fried Chicken Stuffed Crust Pizza (served with gravy)
- American Classic (Texas): With lots of crispy bacon, chunky beef, ham and pepperoni slices.
Dinner
- A 1 1/2 kilo (3.3lbs) slab of Prime Sirloin
- Two whole chickens
- For the kids - 1/2 kilo of cheese hotdogs
Dessert
- Egg custard (Hey it’s not meat, but an embryo is close enough OK!)
So there you have it, cows, chickens (aborted an whole), and a few hogs thrown in just because I can!
Not wanting to wish anyone anything but the best on this day, I sincerly hope those that follow the PETA movement enjoy their meal of nuts, berries and tree bark today (Said as I wipe the hiefer greese from my chin as it drips from my sirloin & cheese sandwich).
I’ll leave you with this little nugget gleaned from Pamela Andersen
“When I realized that hamburgers didn’t really grow in “hamburger patches,” as the famous McDonald’s ads had kids believe, but instead came from cows who screamed as they were electrically prodded to slaughter, I became a vegetarian and soon started rolling nickels I’d saved to join PETA.”
Which tells you all that’s needed in assessing the intelligence level of both Pamela and PETA.

Bacon, and a cheese omelette for breakfast today. Lunch — one of those ‘dagwood’ sandwiches with multiple cold-cuts (turkey, ham, roast beef) and cheese.
Dinner — veal parmesan… because they really hate the idea of veal (also considered lamb and rabbit but rabbit is hard to find and I didn’t see any good lamb chops. )
Incidentally, Meaning of Peta in Sanskrit :
Peta (peta; Skt. preta): A “hungry shade” or “hungry ghost” — one of a class of beings in the lower realms, sometimes capable of appearing to human beings. The petas are often depicted in Buddhist art as starving beings with pinhole-sized mouths through which they can never pass enough food to ease their hunger.
Heheh, any connection anywhere?
I’ve seen pictures of them in Thai murals… didn’t know the name of them. I think there might be a connection there…
