In these times of gentleness and political correctness, we all must acknowledge that we’re all special in our own way. We each do what we can best do. Americans and Australians are good at saving lives and the world; the UN is good at asking for money and going to conferences. We’re sure both talents are equally valid; we shouldn’t judge one better or worse than the other.
From The Diplomad, which has been closely following UN “relief efforts". See also this post and this post and… oh, nevermind. Just go to the front page and keep scrolling.

The UN is the sickest joke around. It wants power and influence but never demonstrated any credible and concrete responsibility, moral fibre or accountability. Yet it projects itself as a “moral authority". What morality would that be? It’s a good thing that they be left out of coordinating the massive aid effort. Otherwise more calumny will again sweep across the international scene via another bureaucratic tsunami of corruption and mismanagement…the scale of which even the complicit MSM cannot hide. Better to avoid completely the dreadful chasm that the UN is wrt funds. It is irrelevant and detrimental to acceptable morality.

Not knowing that much about how you coordinate a relief effort, I wouldn’t want to criticize the holding of conferences. It may be that some coordination between countries is necessary to get the helicopters, trucks, and air traffic controllers of several small nations to all do nonredundant and useful work. This probably means that conferences need to be held.
