The death toll now seems to be somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000.
On a more personal note, my ex-neighbor (used to live next door to me in Rawai) just showed up in BBC’s ‘Your experiences,” so that’s another I can strike off my list of worries. Now, if I can just get in touch with him, I can probably find out about everyone else.
Steven Den Beste left me some links to pictures last night (thanks, Steven). One is an animated gif that shows the tsunami’s movement. The other is a series of photos taken on the west coast of Phuket, showing the tidal wave coming in. The man shown was rescued shortly after the picture was taken. The same photographer has put up some more photos of the aftermath, also.
[update] One of my friends, Leone Cosens, is dead.
