A Snarl From The Den……..
The €uro-weenies™ are still trying to claim that their latest proposal will be accepted by the too-tightly-twisted-turban-crowd™, but that is utter nonsense. The mullahs and ayatollahs have no intentions of deviating from their chosen path to nuclear armaments. All they are doing right now is playing for time, and playing with the tiny minds of the ‘diplomats’, in order to pass the point of no return in their research.
As this article, via Iran va Jahan, proves that pathetic ‘brokered deal’ leaves the world in a very dangerous place. The Iranians must be stopped.

Nothing will stop them except regime change. That is one reason they have been making so much trouble in Iraq, to preoccupy us so we will not take them out next. I do not think regime change will come to Iran in time to stop the mullahs getting nukes. There are several steps I think we should take.
1. Deterrance. Inform the mullahs that if they get a nuke and we have a nuclear strike by terrorists anywhere against an American target, we will assume it came from them and destroy them with nuclear retaliation. If it turned out that somebody else actually provided the nuke we’ll burn them too and apologize to the mullahs later. Of course, by that time they’ll be dead, but it’s the thought that counts. Incidentally, we should do the same with North Korea.
2. Inform the mullahs that if they get nukes and shoot nuke-armed missiles at anybody, we will destroy them by nuclear attack. We do not want to see a nuclear war set off in the Middle East by anybody, and if the mullahs do it we’ll burn them. No later apologies this time. The intent, of course, is to prevent them from actually using the damn things, as they have promised they would as soon as they get any. You may ask why the US should do this, rather than leaving it to the Israelis for example. Rafsanjani stated that any Israelis retaliation would not be enough to destroy them, so it would be worth it to burn Tel Aviv and endure the consequences. However, if we want to prevent any nuke war there, the mullahs must be convinced that they will be totally destroyed in the retaliation. I think we can convince them that such a task is not beyond the abilities of the USA.
3. Hopefully deterrance will keep Iran from using a nuke while we organize regime change there. We should provide covert support to a revolutionary war against them in the name of liberty. We should also help out the internal democratic resistance as much as possible, but over the last year or so I have become convinced they cannot overthrow the mullahs themselves. The mullahs are willing to use any force and chicanery to retain power, and are experts by now at retaining power, so I think they will be removed only by force.
4. If it seems advisable we should contemplate overt intervention, even invasion, at a suitable time. The aim will be to put the democratic and revolutionary guerilla elements in charge of the country as quickly as possible then get out. What they end up with is their business, so long as it i) disarms NBC weapons and ii) does not support terrorism.
Many people will be appalled at the potential cost to the Iranians of this strategy. It is certainly regrettable, but what else are we to do? If the Iranians want to avoid the horrific possibilities of the irresponsibility of their out of control rulers, then take out the mullahs ASAP. Overthrow them now. The US should help in this, but the Iranians have to take the lead. If the Iranians want to avoid a nuke war in their country then they must act now, before the mullahs unleash one through their arrogant stupidity..
There comes a point in time when evil people should not be given the option to accept or not accept. The Euro-weenies got their heads stuck in their confort holes too long. Losing their heads this way seems even acceptable.
Michael…your comments are though provoking…I would only add that the Israelis are our trump card in this whole scenario. While the Iraq liberation was driven by the US, we really didn’t have the ability to point out that should Iraq not cooperate, we will unleash the Israelis. As a result, a majority of the Memberstates sitting on the UN Security Council felt no compulsion to turn away from their “Oil for Food” profiteering. Plus, they didn’t think we would do it without their blessing.
Iran, on the other hand, directly threatens Israel’s nuclear singularity. And, they, no doubt, have committed priority resources to undermining Iran’s progress. You can, also, assume that the CIA has field operatives in Iran stirring up the student and small business owner dissent to the Mullahs.
The bottom line is that the US, and Israel will have to bring all pressure to a crescendo that still allows the Clerics to save face while backing down. The Mullahs will be indignant to the US and Israel…but they can’t afford to do so with their own citizens. I’d imagine there are some back door meetings right now with the Reformist movement in Iran…and their primary topic is ruling Iran…with a side salad of…how two work up the pro-Democracy Iranians up into a lather at the exact right time to make the play…My fear is that China will take a more active and overt role. They have been strenghthening their ties with Iran.
