Despite what you may think, the upcoming election is not between Bush and Kerry. Nor is it between any slate of local or regional candidates. As I noted before, we are now in the midst of the keystone battle of the Enlightenment for our generation. The choices we make on 2 November will have consequences that will shape our world for a generation or more – not just for a four year term.
An excellent essay, with a lot of good historical background. Certainly food for thought.

Somewhat OT….thought worth mentioning :

Thumbs up for LGF!
What? The only ones there I think belong are InstaPundit on ‘most likely’ and LGF on International and Lileks on creative. But what with is the “The Corner” winning everything and the anti-war blogs only getting honorable mention? I think that vote got Freeped or something.
Lileks should have beat The Corner, hands down, for Best Rant. And Kos (although I don’t like that blog) should have beat The Corner for Democratic coverage. The WaPo is read by both sides, at least one of the anti-Bush blogs should have been tops in something.
Which of the anti-Bush blogs should have won? Almost all of them are overrun with moonbats, and blatantly pander to the moonbat market. There are some very good disaffected democrats blogging, of course, but I wouldn’t characterise them as “anti-Bush”.
