Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim set free

Malaysian former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has been set free from jail after the country’s highest court overturned his sodomy conviction.

The decision came six years to the day after his mentor-turned-rival, former leader Mahathir Mohammed, sacked him following a row over the economy.

Mr Anwar has always argued that charges against him were politically motivated.

And so they were. I’m glad he’s been freed. (I know most of you don’t know who he is but this is important news in Malaysia.)

The charges against him were politically motivated as were those against others like Lim Guan Eng http://www.malaysia.net/dap/lge.htm - the later completed his sentence. Anwar however was said to be a fan of Ayatollah Khomeini ; at least he did help promote the hijab drive in Malaysia and played communal politics. Therefore though he ironically suffered from the System of which he staunchly supported previously, his own fans are mostly partisans as were the narrow issues he championed before being incarcerated.

“After his release he is expected to fly to Munich for back treatment and the Saudi Arabian government has offered the use of a private plane.”

    Why??

He was polarising and partisan despite all “damage and image control” and there is no reason to believe that things have changed.
