Charley…

It’s not too bad so far but we just now are starting to get the feeder bands in. A fair amount of rain, no major thunder/lightning or wind yet. I’ll try to do some updates if/when I get the chance. If the electric goes out, I may still be able to update but if the phone line goes out… I’m going to be silent (DSL).

Anyone else blogging the hurricane leave your URL in the comments. Maybe enough of us can stay online at various times to blog what’s happening…

[update] Merde. Now category 4. I’m going offline for a few hours…

Be careful down there, Kathy. Sometimes those feeder bands generate tornadoes. Be safe.

How many times can the weather casters say hunker down.

I’ve turned it into a drinking game, but had to quit. Was working way to well.

If you are seeing the outer edges of the hurricane, that’s the first indication that bloggers are too effing stupid to get out of the wway of a natural disater.

I’m just winding up my blog from Sarasota. The storm’s now NE of us, heading toward Orlando.

So far, so good for my particular region. Still have power, phone and water. Not so good for people in Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda.

I had a rolling post on the storm, drawn
from Fort Myers and Orlando media sources.

I don’t think Kathy has any electricity right now. Nobody in Lee County does.

Hey, Anon Mouse, seeing a stupid, clueless comment like yours is the first indication that you have never been in a hurricane and thus haven’t the slightest idea what you are talking about. Just how is someone supposed to “get out of the path” of a storm like that? Notice how it basically chased across the state everyone who fled to Daytona Beach? All you can do — if you aren’t in a flood area or living in a mobile home (which are the two classes of Florida resident the mandatory evacuation was meant for), is to stay put indoors and hope the people who built your house actually fastened the roof to the walls. And just what is wrong with blogging once there is nothing else to do and the power is still on?

I’ve already seen this on two blogs, here and here: comments to the effect that blogging during a hurricane is a “stupid” activity. Okay, could someone explain to me why? I mean, I can understand that if you haven’t prepared at all — you have no f…
