Silly season, indeed.

I don’t usually comment much on moonbats (from the right or the left). But Atrios’ latest bout of insanity (scroll down to ‘Celebrate Diversity’) is just plain weird. He seems to have decided that a t-shirt, which is endorsed by Instapundit, Frank J, and John Hawkins, with pictures of a bunch of guns on the front and the text ‘Celebrate Diversity’ is racist. I suppose because ‘diversity’ is shorthand, in his world, for ‘blacks’ or something? And Instapundit’s wearing of the t-shirt indicates he’s a racist. Right. Check the comments to Atrios’ post as well.

Atrios’ friend Steve Gilliard goes even further and decides that Frank J’s running gag about monkeys is racist because monkey is a codeword for black or something. Scroll down and read his comments section too. Baldilocks has a few words on that one (I stole her post title and added ‘indeed). She says: “Only a racist would automatically think of race *whenever* monkeys are mentioned.” I agree.

I’ve posted this under humor because I simply cannot believe these people are serious. They have got to be pulling our legs or something.

  1. I’m not sure which I’d prefer to believe: that Atrios and company are “pulling our legs,” – i.e., fibbing for tactical reasons – or that they’re utterly serious about their calumnies and in need of help from their brain-care providers.

One thing is clear: if the Democratic Party wants to have a future more appetizing than that of the Whigs in 1860, they’d better disown this sort of thing post-haste.

  2. I would like to believe the first. But I’m very much afraid that they really are in need of brain-care.
I’d actually be thrilled if the Dems went the way of the Whigs. It would give those of us on the left side of the Republicans and the right side of the Democrats a new party. :)

  3. As with most people I’m on pins and needles, but I’ve admitted this: I see signs of implosion over there, and I think the best thing that could happen to the Democratic Part would be for them to get a thermonuclear ass-whupping in November. It’d knock some damned sense into ‘em, drive the fringe elements to the fringe, and give sane people a reason to vote for them again.

    Well I can dream, can’t I?

  4. Dean,
That would be bucking a thirty year trend among the Democrats. Three decades and more is how long the moonbats have been running the party. On occasion they have hidden their ideas just long enough to mislead the voters into voting Democratic, under the mistaken impression that the party has changed its spots, but the leftist haters and hustlers always resurface.
