Quote of the day.

Found in the comments to a post at a small victory, by ‘Iron Fist’.

Almost anything can be used as a weapon. Training, knowledge and intent are the real weapons. Everything else is just a force-multiplier.

Remember that, people. If that message gets through to just one person in a position to do something, many lives could be saved. Training is very helpful, but even without training, knowledge and intent can often be enough. Remember the story I linked long ago about the guy who used a loaf of bread as a weapon. Look around you, get creative, find at least 5 things within reach that you could use as a ‘force multiplier’. I’ll bet you’ll surprise yourself. Learn to think that way all the time and you’ll never be defenseless.

  1. If you are talking about weapons, unobtrusive ones, a ball pen too is deadly.

  2. Ah. Then what about a pair of chopsticks?

  4. OK. That’s it. No more breadsticks on aeroplanes. Or chopsticks. Or pens for that matter. You will have to do the crossword in crayon :-)

The real problem is that it is almost impossible to manage the training/knowledge/intent side but it is easier to “ban” the obvious multipliers.
