If a picture's worth a thousand words [permalink]

This cartoon is worth two thousand. The explanation of the "bellicose woman" phenomenon in one picture and a few words. Next time any of you think to yourselves "kids today...", go look at this and think again. I had this one e-mailed to me, and also found it posted in forums not long after September 11, but it took me a while to go searching to find who actually did the cartoon. She's seventeen.

Quotable [permalink]

Andrew Sullivan on the aftermath of the attacks: "I miss the America that knew deeply that it was different, apart, protected, somehow open to the world and yet immune from its worst evils. As any immigrant knows, this was the thrill of this country, its irresistible pull, its deepest promise. It was a symbol that the world need not always be the impenetrably dark place it has often been."

He sees us (US) both from without and within. That's a rare talent, and it's why I keep reading him -- even when he's on a bout of obsessive pundit bashing.

  • I'm not sure why, but I'm beginning to get the impression that Tim Blair is not very fond of Margo Kingston.
  • Rand Simberg replies to a spam e-mail. Good for a chuckle or two.
  • Happy Fun Pundit explains how dangerous Canada really is. But I knew that already -- they invade Florida every winter.
  • Sgt Stryker has some cautionary comments on war with Iraq: Here Comes the Hubris.
  • I also noticed I'm in Sarge's "Salty Nuts" link section. Appropriate.
  • I've reorganized my links. "Special forces" are those who are not hosting on blogspot, "regular army" is those on blogspot. AWOL is those who have said they are going away for a bit, or who haven't posted for over a week (and I didn't give them leave). MIA may actually be MIB (AWOL), since Dan seems to be still around, even if his blog has disappeared. Points to anyone who can tell me what "MIB" stands for.
  • I'm being watched by the sinister globalist illuminati -- and I know who the main spy is. Perry, you are a cad... a bounder... and probably a rakehell as well. So when are you going to post another sexy picture of yourself?
