Got it in one...[permalink]

"And Westerners were direct. If someone shot at them, they didn't waste time exploring the root causes of why someone wanted to kill them. They shot back.
George W. Bush and his administration are indeed Westerners. Cowboys, if you like. People who live in the real world consider that a good thing."

Short Stuff [permalink]

  • Mark Steyn has a few choice words to say about President Bush's domestic policies. He's in his usual fine form. He's even coined a new (just slightly sarcastic) term: "compassionate protectionism". I love it.
  • Newsweek interviewed a man who has supplied the fighters holed up in the Arma mountains. “They want to either win the war or be martyred,” he says. I don't think they are likely to win, but I'm sure our side will be happy to oblige them in their wish for martyrdom.
  • NY Times says: "...a secret Penta gon report calls for developing new nuclear weapons...". Doesn't sound too secret to me. Whether the report is true or not -- it's good psyops to let it leak.
  • Yep, we sure are torturing the detainees at Gitmo. If we keep this sort of treatment going, they'll all get fat.
  • "The purpose of gun control is to make criminals safe when they rob, burgle, rape and murder." I'd say he's got that one spot-on.
  • America Detains Iranian General and eight other Iranians caught bringing in money and arms to Afghan allies of theirs. I hope they send lots of their military higher-ups to places we can catch them. The fewer left in Iran, the more chance for a moderate government to take over there.
  • Good news on the information front. "...the State Department is planning to go ahead with the construction of an FM radio transmitter to be used by the Iraqi opposition in exile.
